Welcome to my Running Website!

I’m a marathon, fell, and ultra marathon runner.  I have been running for about 9 years now, having hung up my football boots.  I am completely addicted and passionate about my running.  Living on the edge of the Peak District means I am fortunate to have some great places to run in, just on my doorstep.

I wanted to have this site, so that I can store all of my running info in one place – race results, race plans, training calendar, reports, Garmin links, photos etc.

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running?

5 1/2 years.  I did lots of running on the beaches of Sydney during a 6 month Sabbatical there.  I was really training for my return to football, after a few years off – but I got the running bug nad haven’t looked back

What was the first race you ever ran?  Sheffield Half Marathon 2009

How many marathons / ultra marathons have you run?  6 marathons and 7 ultras

What was your most memorable race and why? 

It’s a draw:

- London Marathon – incredible crowds and atmosphere and I smashed my PB there!

- Lakeland 100 – stunning 105 mile course, fantastic support amongst runners, marshalls and supporters – just amazing!

Which event would you most like to run & why?

See my bucket list – so many races I want to do…..

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? 

Scott Jurek – from everything I see, he is not just a great runner, but also a genuinely nice guy with some great principles which I admire.

From what race did you receive your favourite finisher’s medal/award? 

Berlin – great medal.  Closely followed by London.

Which race would you never run again and why? 

Nottingham marathon – it’s a good half marathon, and then the extra 13 miles is just contrived and wasn’t enjoyable.

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? 

The Lakeland 100 – my first 100 mile race with >20,000 feet of climbing, which took me over 28 hours to complete – say no more….

What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training

When I’m in full training I average around 50-55 miles per week.  If I’m preparing for an ultra or mountain race then much of this is off road.  In my Lakeland 100 training I was climbing around 8,000 feet per week.

What are your short-term running goals? 

Newcastle Town Moor marathon in October where I’m targeting a top 3 finish.  Then Seville marathon in February where I’d like to beat my PB.  Then another 100 miler next year – either South Downs Way (102 miles) in June or Hardmoors 110 (113 miles) in May.

What are your long-term running goals? 

The Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc – 102 miles and 29000 feet of climbing, around some stunning mountains

Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons? 

I love spending time with my wonderful family.  Yoga.  Cooking.  Family holidays.  Supporting Newcastle United (from my armchair)!
